Wellington Free Ambulance provides a 24/7 emergency paramedic service across Greater Wellington and the Wairarapa, from Cook Strait to Peka Peka Road on the Kāpiti Coast. Our clinical communications centre handles over 236,000 calls for help each year, while our crews attend more than 55,000 emergency incidents. We also offer patient transfers, event medical services, and free community CPR training through The Lloyd Morrison Foundation Heartbeat programme. Our services have been free of charge since 1927.
We serve everyone across our region, but most of our work is for people experiencing medical conditions that require some form of urgent care — not necessarily an ambulance or a trip to the emergency department. This includes older adults, people with chronic health conditions, and whānau needing clinical guidance and reassurance through our 111 call centre.
