What we do

Whakarongorau Aotearoa is a social enterprise that operates the National Telehealth Service, providing free health and mental health advice, support, and information to the people of New Zealand 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the year. The organisation partners across health and social services to ensure that everyone has the opportunity for wellness, serving as a leading provider of triage, prevention, and wellbeing services in Aotearoa. By integrating with various health services, Whakarongorau Aotearoa aims to be accessible when face-to-face health and social services are unavailable, thereby enhancing the overall healthcare system.

Overview of our offering

  • Primary care support: Provides additional practice resources through doctors and nurse practitioners, offering continuity of care and integration with other services such as Quitline and mental health support like 1737.
  • Screening programme coordination: Manages the National Bowel Screening Programme Register and the National Cervical Screening Register, serving as the operational hub to monitor mailings, test results, and manage national call centres for these programmes.
  • After-hours medical support: Offers after-hours services to ensure that individuals have access to medical advice and support outside of regular healthcare provider hours.
  • Health information dissemination: Provides health and wellness education to support patients and their whānau, ensuring they have the necessary information to make informed health decisions.
  • Integration with existing health services: Works in partnership with various health and social services to provide seamless support, ensuring that individuals receive comprehensive care that addresses their diverse needs.
